About Municipal Corporation Sonipat
The Municipal Corporation Sonipat (MCS) is the apex local self-government body responsible for the planned development and administration of Sonipat city. Established to meet the growing needs of our rapidly urbanizing region, MCS serves as the backbone of civic infrastructure and public services for thousands of residents.
Serving the "Golden City" of Haryana as a unified governing body, the Municipal Corporation Sonipat (MCS) carries forward a legacy of civic administration that dates back nearly a century.
While the modern Municipal Corporation was officially constituted on July 6, 2015, the roots of local governance in the city are much deeper:
1933: The Municipal Committee Sonipat was first established, marking the beginning of organized urban administration for the city.
1993: As the city grew in industrial and regional importance, it transitioned into a Municipal Council.
2015: Recognizing its status as a major hub within the National Capital Region (NCR), the Haryana Government upgraded it to a Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam), making it the 10th such corporation in the state.
Today, MCS manages the evolution of "Swarnprastha" (the ancient name for Sonipat, meaning "Golden City") into a futuristic urban centre while honouring its historical identity.
